Ok, I can't promise this is the last post about the farm-

I did, however, create a whole page dedicated just to Milky Way.

I'm such a romantic and I wish it were possible to ressurrect this glorious landmark

back to it's original glory. The years haven't been kind to all the beautiful barns and cottages

that once dotted the landscape, but thanks to the labors of love

of some of the previous owners, we can catch glimpses of the glory that once was.

More about Bella's New Home

I can't just reveal the location of our 2012 show without taking you on a journey. My first real visit to the farm was an all-inclusive experience that I want you to experience as well! I believe this show will become a destination with so much to offer even the most discriminating history buffs! As I explored the possibilities of our new home, I became engulfed in the story and found surprises at every turn. So, come with me and I think you will feel the same!

A short 45 minute drive from our office, we head south on I-65. Almost to Pulaski, take Exit 27 and head west through beautiful rolling hills scatterd with barns and quaint farm houses. Some barns are still full of life, painted a vibrant shade of red and adorned with giant leftover Christmas wreaths. Others are barely standing, but testify to their better days with beauty and simplicity. Seven minutes from the interstate is the beautiful, Mayberry-esque little town of Lynnville, population 327. (Saaaaa Lute!)

The town is well cared for with restored store fronts on Main Street and the streets are groomed with potted flowers and trees to welcome visitors.

Center stage is Colonel Littleton's, "Purveyor of Fine Accounterments for Gentlemen in the Americana Tradition". Amazing! Go check out the colonel here. He's quite the personality and his store a treasure trove of Lynnville 200 years ago along with leather good lovingly crafted by local artisans. (Besides his website http://www.colonellittleton.com/.

Everyone in the car squealed at the sight of the restored Steam Train and Depot. The townspeople have maintained the integrity of their community and there are no ugly circa 1970 storefronts.

Cross the street to Soda Pop Junction and belly up to the bar for the best hamburger and onion rings in the state of Tennessee! Order up a hand-dipped chocolate malt and find a comfortable booth so you can sit back and enjoy the local color.

While you're waiting on the grill you can browse an anthology of memories of Lynnville past, and bask in a recollection of simpler times.

If you have room for dessert, they'll serve up a warm peach fried pie with real ice cream.

The Stone Barn, designed by Mr. Mars, is built from native stone. Mr. Mars delighted in odd sizes and unique designs and this barn is a prime example of his execution of the artistic and unusual.

The great news is that we can put approximately 60 vendors under one roof! No rain worries....and by the looks of those beautiful stone walls, we won't have to worry about wind either! Parking? Well, that's another story.

Milky Way Farm was once home to some 30 barns; home to Thoroughbred horses, Herford Cattle, Dairy Cattle, Sheep and Mules. In a later post, I will give you a tour of the beautiful Manor House; a

Endless stories of his generousity, his love for the outdoors and of building a legacy of not only integrity, but fine taste. He was a man of detail, and it has been said that there was a chandelier in every barn!

The weather today in Nashville is "beginning to look a lot like Christmas". I'm a little bummed that I couldn't make the trip to visit our new mystery barn, postponed because of the mud. So to appease that spirit of adventure, I've grabbed a fresh cup of Joe and am staring at my computer.
I've spent a lot of time lately with one of my favorite bloggers, Julia, at http://www.hookedonhouses.net/.
Each Christmas she pulls out the "Top Ten Best Christmas Movie Houses" post and asks readers to submit their favs. We watched "White Christmas" at my house last week, and the details of the barn dining room really jumped out at me.

She posts some great stills of the movie and you can peruse all the details. But you know they embellish those sets way beyond what that "little barn" could actually hold. Take a look at these real beauties...

So now I'm daydreaming about Christmas in the country. It's a little game one of my best friends taught me. Pick out a house and label it a holiday. You know, "That's my Christmas House," or "Thanksgiving House". In other words, the house you would dream of having your family over for the holiday in. Of course, the house for Christmas is in the country and it undoubtedly would have to have a barn! (Wow, I could host Bella anytime of year!)
As in the movie, the nearby town would have to be equally as quaint. Have you ever been to Franklin, Tennessee for their 'Dicken's Christmas'? Oh, My!

Can you see the architecture reflection in the window? When you're there, you really feel like you've stepped back in time. Christmas card perfect....

Remember that old Annhauser Bush commercial with the clydesdale horses pulling the sleigh up to the beautiful Inn? Could Christmas ever really be that romantic?

Ok, so back to my fantasy.... here's my anytime house. I could seriously stay the rest of my days in a house like this.

Yes, that is a fireplace on the front porch! It backs up to the one inside and those are two french doors on either side. Add a couple of rockers, a throw and a cozy fire...ooooheeee! How 'bout a Springtime party with the doors open and your guests stroll in and out! It's hard to tell by this elevation, but that is actually a big wrap-around porch. The holidays really bring out the sappy part of me. My Christmases when I was a kid were a bit lack-luster, so my imagination runs in overdrive because of all the great movie sets and houses.

Oh, wait! Christmas is all about something that happened in a barn, er uh, stable! Merry Christmas!

My imagination runs wild this time of year with visions of cozy family gatherings and quaint Christmas outings. So I wanted to share about a new discovery I've made this week. A gorgeous blank canvas that invites my right brain (or is it my left?) to go hog wild! Up until now, I just couldn't muster any enthusiasm at all over a second Bella Rustica. I was looking for yet another perfect barn to stage Bella Rustica 2012. Somewhere fresh, rustic and swoon-worthy. Somewhere we can grow and expand; bloom! But if I take it further outside of Nashville, will it still thrive? Could we actually have established enough of a following that it wouldn't matter? Really- us junkers don't mind a bit of a drive if our destination reeks of charm, history and romance, right? Well, I stumbled upon this amazing location. In two years of sifting through acres and acres of farmland, how could I have missed this! It's dreamy! The photos aren't great, but here's a tiny peek....

Just look! We could be together all under one roof!! No more perching on the edge of insanity worrying about the rain. I could have my 'Burlap Cafe' with barrel tables and plenty of seating to take a load off those junkin' feet and enjoy some good eats and great music. There's plenty of pastoral views and fresh air and we could throw in a tour of a 40+ room 1930's Tudor style manor built by a family who loved to entertain.

OK, I'd better stop now before I spill. It isn't a for sure thing yet. It may not be logistical, but the owners are open to it and I'm going to take a look for myself so either I can turn off these wheels in my brain, or shift to second gear!

Leaving you with a little Thanksgiving barn love. (Well, it looks like Tennessee...) Only, Tennessee this time of year is nothing but sticks. We had a good 'killin' frost' last week and the leaves are pretty much gone.

One of the coolest things about living in Nashville though is that you don't have to drive out into the country to enjoy the barns. Inside the city limits there must be hundreds of barns, with beautiful horses grazing unaware of rush hour just beyond their fence. (Did you know that there are more horses in Tennessee than in the entire state of Texas???) When I moved here from Dallas a few years back, a short drive anywhere would set my heart to racing at the beauty of the stately manors nestled into the rolling hills with all their sprawling lawns and well manicured landscapes. At dusk, warm lighting through the windows would invite me in to the kids doing their homework at the table while Mom fetched some supper. Sometimes I'd see big families gathered at the table enjoying each other's narrative about their day. Warm, welcoming...delightful! (OK, you know you do it too....imagine yourself living in a particular house.)

It's an inspiring season of the year indeed, and to you, my dear friends may you experience a blessed Thanksgiving Day surrounded by family and close friends!

This sign says it all, doesn't it? CJ Hughes, (Mr. Vintage Junky) hand lettered the most wonderful signs at the show. This one is a keeper and I'm guessing it ended up at their shop in Franklin. Seeing this show come together, the incredible people that were involved, and so many new friendships that I pray will be life-long, have all truly been a dream come true.

Grazie, y'all!

I've spent the last year and a half of my life preparing, dreaming, typing, building, designing, organizing, selling and all but giving birth to Bella Rustica; Nashville's first Urban Barn Marketplace. Last week, with all the intense labor and long hours, falling into bed each night so exhausted and getting up with more aches than I went to bed with , I caught myself thinking, "next week I will get my life back." .....No, wait! I don't want my life back!
You know when you go on a vacation or experience any great moment in your life, you wish you had a video you could play over and over and re-live all the great moments? Well, blogging is even better!
I can't wait to share all the great photos of the people and unforgettable moments of this amazing show.
By the time Saturday evening rolled around, there were tears and hugs and well wishes given as we all looked forward to the possibility of Bella becoming an annual fundraiser on AGAPE's calendar. Every vendor, every ooh-la-la moment, every drop of sweat and every belly-laugh; the beautiful children with their wide-eyes riding Buster, the horse; every volunteer, every song sung by the precious musicians that donated their time. The smells of fresh grilled Tap Root burgers and kettle corn and the best stinkin' ice cream on the planet.... were all the threads woven into the perfect tapestry that made this show such a huge success.
Friday morning as I turned onto Clovercroft Road at sunrise, this is what I saw...

I literally gasped out loud. The end of that rainbow appeared to be at my destination..the barn. By the time I reached the farm and walked through the giant doors of the barn, the sun was peeking over the hills and it's bright pink and orange rays spilling out over the rafters and stall doors. As my friend Stacey said, "I believe there's something Spiritual going on here!" It was definately an awe-full moment!

I know all of you are anxiously awaiting pictures of our bliss-full moments. I ran my camera battery down by noon both days. Even after editing them all, I don't feel that it does it justice, so I am waiting on my new sweet friend Autumn Lynn to send me hers. She was our event photographer who dropped out of the sky, I might add, and was at the event literally from sun-up to sun down both days. I don't want to spoil it with my sad little cool Pix photos, so we're gonna have to wait. Maybe she will filter them in a few at a time.

It's odd being back in the office today. I must admit, I am a bit tearful. It's raining a good, slow steady fall rain on the outside, (thank you God for giving us great weather this weekend!) but it is warm and fuzzy on the inside. Please come back again soon. I will introduce you to all our lovely vendors and showcase their incredible talent with Autumn's photos. You'll see- it will definately be worth the wait!

The Fun has Begun!

Today was our first official day at Tap Root Farm preparing for our event. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we accomplished all we had set out to do by 3pm. A great group of volunteers, with a special shout out to HCA/TriStar- your volunteers are the BEST!

We enjoyed sandwiches from Panera and homemade brownies thanks to Judy, my boss. We all got a little taste of farm living, but we all agreed, a bad day on the farm is better than a good day at the office!
We swept rafters, hauled p#*p, spread hay, laughed, yanked big 'ole gypsum weed, sneezed, moved rocks, sneezed, laughed, sneezed....well, you get the idea. The place looks a.may.zing! I can't wait to see it with all your goodies, ladies!

Oh my goodness, I can't believe Bella is coming fast upon us! We are getting so much rain, which is good... better now than next week. Soon we will be mowing and mucking & measuring, getting ready for Nashville Tent & Awning to come do their thing. I have so many surprises planned and have been amazed, still, by all the folks stepping up to pitch in. Thanks so much to all of you who have volunteered. We still need volunteers, so keep spreading the word!

Don't forget, tickets can be bought online to avoid the lines! Click on the ticket stub in the sidebar to be directed to the form. You can still purchase tickets at the gate, but only a limited number of Early Bird Tickets will be sold and they are going fast!

There will be plenty of free parking on-site, but remember to wear sensible shoes...after all, it is a working barn! I don't recommend any open-toes!

What does a Bella Chick look like?

Well, with the show just a bit over two weeks away, I've been thinking "wardrobe". With all the hype of the Junk Gypsy Show, I wouldn't want to be a carbon copy, but I've gotta admit, those Prom pictures are pretty sassy!

This little number is right up my alley (sorry, I didn't save the source).

I love the fall colors and the lace trim... or maybe it's just the truck.

Probably still too hot for long sleeves anyway.

Then there's Magnolia Pearl, but this body is not cut out for all that cuteness, so my daughter will be wearing it instead. Besides, what kind of shoes do you wear? I've been looking at all the thrift stores for some worn out wingtips to mimmick "boyfriend shoes" or maybe some Sears workboots (just kidding!)

These babies are $157 at Nordstrom....wooo hooo! Besides Nordstrom won't be open until September 17....Hey! No one will be there 'cause they're gonna be shopping the barn!

I'm also liking a denim dress-the more contemporary cowgirl. Glamerella Junk can put together the look with her gorgeous jewelry creations and maybe one of those vinty slips underneath.

Look What I Found in the Hen House!

Friday afternoon, after my post about inspiration, my dear friend Stacey at Three French Hens in Nolensville invited me to come play with her and Mary while they designed their store window to promote Bella Rustica.

A trip to TFH has been on my to-do list for quite some time, so I headed on down to Nolensville. After a brief tour of all the new goodies, and a peek into "The Roost" to say hello to Debbie, we rolled up our sleeves and went to work. (Yeah, they actually let me do some visual merchandising!)

Mary Runger, junk maven extraodinaire, balanced herself on a narrow ledge and we ran for props. Occasionally, we would step outside and squeal with delight while traffic buzzed by only a few feet away.

Stacey treated us to Cranberry Lime Slushees from Sonic about 10 pm

and we were renewed and refreshed!

Donna at Funky Junk Interiors (her loveliness here) would have been so proud of the junk chandie we came up with. Too bad it didn't photograph better. The light is coming from a vintage pink dresser lamp wired upside down into the basket.

Look closely and you'll see Bella postcards adorning the pink and brown shopping bags.

We laughed until we cried...it was so much fun! I can't wait until the show 'cause I know it will be more of the same...three days of "junk-citement"as Stacey would say!

Giddy-Up Glam vs Metro Chic....we made it in the Style Issue!

The September "Style Issue" of Her magazine is out and Bella Rustica is front and center....

Well, almost. Page 19 to be exact. Just opposite a "Funky & Fresh" article.

So Nashville, while 2011 brought us our first Fashion Week, we would still like to celebrate the

cowboy-hat-and-sequin-image style by putting a fresh twist on Cowgirl glam. At Bella, you will discover a playful side of fashion. Who doesn't love Magnolia Pearl? While Robin Brown won't be there in person,

MaryBeth, boutique owner and fashionista, has made 'Pearl' available here in Tennessee!

The entire issue of HER is about celebrating individual style. One of my favorite quotes is: "Style is confidence and a sense of humor. It is knowing what you love and also about taking risks. What we wear should be an introduction of who we are, not a mask to cover it up."

So far, this is our first real "public" exposure....at least in print. Nashville, Brentwood and Franklin can expect a personal invitation dropped right in the mailbox within the next week or so. Facebook is all abuzz with excitement and anticipation of Nashville's Premier Marketplace event!

Personally, it's like hearing your song on the radio for the first time-

only this one is destined to become a hit!

Rosebuds, Relics and Remnants of the Past....

Erin of Toteally Posh didn't discover her real nitche until her sweet daughter was born. Her first DIY project ever was making a cape for her Barbie when she was eight years old. In 2000, she began her business making custom purses, totes and diaper bags (hence the name Tote-ally). Soon you could find her creations in the French Shoppe here in Nashville.

When she found she was expecting her baby girl, her passion exploded into sweet adornments for children. She has a very successful Etsy shop (but it is closed temporarily until Bella Rustica) but for now you can keep up with her exceptional designs here.

Erin takes pride in every garmet as if it were for her own daughter. Look

for her in the main barn.

Wanda of Upcycled Interiors is coming all the way from South Carolina! She owns Grapevine Marketplace in downtown Greer, SC and shares her love for all things vintage with 17 other dealers there. She's was stricken with the "RoundTop" fever last fall and loves to take her salvage style creations on the road.

Wanda recently launched her own re-purposed fair and salvage style market this past June and it was a huge success. We look forward to meeting her and are hopeful that her entrepreneural spirit will rub off on us!

Another local treasure is Colleen Meffe. She is in the business of redemption. Finding old windows and doors and giving them a new beautiful life.

Message boards and memory boards. Look closely and you'll see her lovely caligraphy in handwritten sentiments alongside vintage images and photos. Much of her inspiration comes from old letters from her Uncle Jay, whose letters always ended with an Irish Blessing or inspirational thought.

Her work is currently on display at The Iron Gate in Historic Downtown Franklin.

More vendors with salvage savvy....

Nancy (SassyTrash) will be bringing her friend, Sharon, of Hunter's Crossing, who creates these beautiful concrete castings; angel wings, concrete bowls and pumpkins. Concrete is one of my favorite mediums and I was thrilled when Sharon asked if she could tag along.

I am loving the gorgeous color and texture here. No more hating to throw away those perfect orange rounds to make room for Christmas decorations.

Her concrete bowls, crafted and stained, are at home with a rural farmhouse or an urban loft. The angel wings have the perfect patina and are reminiscient of ancient cathedrals. She will be hauling these all the way from Georgia. (Did anyone ever see that Lucy movie, 'The Long-Long Trailer'?) These Hunter's Crossing items will go fast- so make a b-line for the main tent.
Here's another gifted artisian, Michael West with West Vintage Trading Co. Michael's creations start with authentic vintage relics and maintain the integrity of their past even in the finished product.

He collects vintage industrial, steampunk, car & motorcycle parts, furniture and lamps. He is definately an American Picker and will buy it and offer it, or find it just for you .

Michael is working on a special chair made from guitar bodies and will offer it at Bella Rustica...the perfect
'Music City' casa decor!

Get your 'Gypsy' on with a little Boho Glam from Random Cargo. Jenna is traveling all the way from Harrisburg, IL to share her romantic style with her lovely fringed and bedazzled bags, jewelry and accessories.

How about a little 'Boho Glam' to go with your farm chick style? Wouldn't these be great with Magnolia Pearl? They would definately be the accessory of choice with my favorite outfit, jeans and cowboy boots!

So many choices! I've got a pickle jar with Bella Rustica on it, saving my grocery money. Peanut butter sandwiches and a RC will hold me til then! (wink)

Check out these beautiful, frame-worthy posters! Michelle, of Vintage Junky fame, and her super-talented husband will be selling these in their booth at Bella Rustica! Just look for 'Hazel', the cutest ever little vintage Shasta trailer where these fine art posters will be up for grabs. They have generously offered to give half of the proceeds to Agape!

I believe this is only a sampling to whet our event poster appetite. Mr. Hughes is quite a talented fellow and I have a feeling he will be producing even more!

Thistle Farms is a non-profit business operated by the women of Magdalene. By hand, the women create natural bath and body products that are as kind to the environment as they are to the body. All proceeds go back into the program

Magdalene is a two-year residential program founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 1997 for women with a history of prostitution and drug addiction. Magdalene was founded not just to help a sub-culture of women, but the help change the culture itself. They stand in solidarity with women who are recovering form sexual abuse, violence, and life on the streets, and who have paid dearly for a culture that buys and sells women like commodoties. At no cost, they offer women a safe, disciplined and compassionate community for two years, paid for by the gifts they receive from individuals and private grants. Magdalene stands as a witness to the truth that in the end, love is more powerful that all the forces that drive women to the streets.

Design Girl Interiors and Bella Vintage Designs.

Gorgeous presentation....fabulous stuff! Shell Powers and Laurie Cooper are designing women- Shell is here in Franklin and you can friend her on facebook here. Her flair for vintage french pieces coupled with rustic barn wood creations is a beautiful blend. It seems her stuff just flies off of facebook. Man, this gal really has an eye for photography, too! Laurie, her sister, owns an interior design firm in Sarasota, FLA. and you can see her talent here. Both ar joining us and you'll want an early bird ticket for these gals!

Kim Hanauer of Kim's Collectables & Treasures is one of the mavens of vintage-modern cowgirl and will bring her steampunk inspired jewelry designs.

Kim actually lives here in middle Tennessee, but you can find her designs as far away as Texas at The Vintage Raven (accessorizing Magnolia Pearl frocs, of course!). Crossroads of Dixie

I have so much to catch you up on! More vendors and a little road trip.

While I was at the fish radio station, I was told I simply must go check out this little shop in downtown Franklin, Tetelesti 33ad.

I was immediately greeted by Richard, kind and softspoken. He and his lovely wife, out of their dedication to a ministry to spread the Good News, have designed this exquisite line of home furnishings inspired by Scripture. Beautiful embellishments for your home with inspiring words and text.

It really looks like Pottery Barn, doesn't it? Look for Tetelesti in the big tent. Oh, and the meaning of Tetelesti is "It is Finished"- the last words our Christ spoke before His death on the cross.

Traveling a little farther south from Franklin, off Hwy 31, is a charming farm community and crossroads with a century old country store, original post office and granary. Inside is an eclectic mix of vintage finds as fun and varied as it's customers. Linda Jones at Carter's Creek Station Antiques just celebrated her 13 anniversary with a big sale. Now she is off for fresh new finds for the barn sale! Across the road, a delightful old granary packed full of treasures, the Rusty Rake.

Even though it was a trecherous 106 degree heat index, I could have shopped all day and I did load up on some goodies for myself! Look for Linda and Martha in their own tent "out back".

Wonderful breeze....great view...

Lastly, I just can't resist sharing these pictures of the real "Crossroads of Dixie",

Powder Mill Hill on old Pulasky Hwy. Two stories of stuff.....everything from pickles to Elvis. There were even some big fat roosters running around and when I asked their names...."lunch" was the reply! I could have spend hours here, just taking pictures!

Look closely- it's a Saab...garden art?

Ok, if I could just get this to park out front of the sale..... does anyone else think this is cool but me? Notice the fishing poles sticking out the side. The "No Dumping" sign is priceless!

Still more.... enter "The Fancy Flea". Peggy peddles her wares at the Nashville Flea Market. Stuff so cute that they've named a building after her!

Everything from fashionable cuffs to stationary to quirky little cans for stashing your stuff. Ribbon, paper; anything your little crafting heart desires! Peggy is full of great stories and seems to know everybody. She'll inspire and entertain!

Cotton-pickin' Cute!

It's late, but even after a long day at the barn, I can't resist posting about our latest vendor, Jenni Bowlin Studio! She is a home girl who has definately found her nitch in the paper craft business. Incorporating vintage finds and duplicating gorgeous vintage imagery into wonderful products that would make any crafter look like a pro!

Backing her up is an incredible design team and they all share their ideas and inspiration here.

Oh - Emm - Gee! All these great products AND you can sign up for classes. We are thrilled they will be joining us even though they are already committed to the Country Living Fair that same weekend!

Hmmmmm....I'm seeing some new projects here. Can't wait to see what they'll have to offer for the holidays!

Other exciting news, Mr. Burton, AGAPE's Executive Director, and I have been invited to tour the KLTY 94.1fm radio station. They have put our event on their Community Calendar here and my neighbor is campaigning to get Jaqi Velasquez to promote it on the morning show...seems she is a "funky-junk" sister, too!

Barn Bonanza in full Gallop!

Our big, beautiful postcards came in this week and should be in the mail by the end of the month. All of our vendorsf will have their own stash, so if you haven't gotten yours, please call!

It's been quite a busy week with a lot of new developments. First, we found out that HCA/TriStar, part of the HCA Family of Hospitals, will be donating a big event tent for our show. PHEW! What a huge blessing!

Then, we applied for a sponsorship for ads in Nashville Scene, HER Nashville and Nfocus magazine. Keeping our fingers crossed. Next, we saw the proof of the two-page spread in our full-color newsletter. Can I just say: W.O.W !! Emails have been pouring in with vendor applications, (yes, we are still accepting vendors) and offers for volunteer opportunities. We are seeing first-hand why they call Tennessee "the Volunteer State". Thanks so much!

In addition to all the media, I want to introduce a few of our new vendors. Kellie Montana is a Nashville original from right down on Music Row. Her personality is quite obvious in her extraordinary renderings of the ordinary and many famous 'locals' collect her work...say, Taylor Swift, Pam Tillis and Wynonna Judd, to name a few!

Kellie has experience is several of the local fine art shows, but says that events like ours are her favorite!

Yay, Kellie! From the looks of your sassy photos, you're our kind of gal!

Other 'Bella Chicks' joining the coop are from the 'Strawberry Patch' Barn Sale in Lafayette, Tennessee, Alicia Raney and Christy Donoho. They will bring an element of color and whimsy to the show with painted canvases and furniture. These photos will do the talkin'.

We are so excited about the awesome mix of talent that you will be able to see in one place.

No troll dolls or clothespin art here!

Still, there is one more vendor we'd like to brag about. Diann Rigsby Holmes from, get this,

Hog Creek Road. (Luuuuv it!) She makes T H E M O S T Adorable cowgirl bloomers.

Do you see a hint of 'Magnolia Pearl' influence? Word has it that she and Robin are old friends and share a love for Austrailian Shepherds.

Since she is a country girl, she is also very in-tune to mother earth and makes these collage-art plates from a collection of (previously) living things. Lovely! Diann also brings her 12 + years of experience in Round Top Texas. Just look for her cute self in braids and cowboy boots sportin' her charming bloomers!

Bella gets Sassy!

If you haven't visited Nancy's blog, SassyTrash, you're not only missing out on her genious repurposed creations, but she'll take you touring on the back of her motorcycle through the backroads of Georgia, Florida and Alabama. She'll share all her favorite haunts and throw in pictures of some of the south's best historical architecture and you'll meet some pretty interesting characters along the way.

Magnolia Pearl to Rock Nashville!

Yep! Robin "Pearl" Brown's infamous Magnolia Pearl clothing will be at the barn! But better still, on June 18th, you will be able to shop for Magnolia Pearl at RAINE, a lovely boutique in Brentwood on Town Center Drive at the turn-about.
Robin "Pearl" Brown opened her business in 2001 with her partner, now husband, John Gray. Her Boho-Glam style seem to hit the ground running.

She can be seen from Round Top Texas all the way out to California, but now we can buy right here!

I am so lovin' the "Rose Royce"

Don't you think Music City will love this stuff?
Raine also carries vintage cowgirl boots. If you're lucky, she'll have them in your size...('cuz they are vintage there isn't a range of sizes). So many cute things to see and buy, from glam cowgirl to Metro- Modern. Plenty of jewelry, belt buckles and scarves, too! Follow her at Raine.com

When the cows are already home....

Susan at Tap Root Farm has been gracious enough to invite us to hold our event at her and her family's beautiful farm. Breathtaking views all around and cattle scattered across the hills. I ran across this cute sign at the Keep Calm Store and with the help of color edit made it this lucious shade of chartreuse.

Meet Martha....she is the lovely model in this photo by local photograher/artist Jack Stoddart. He has some pretty amazing farm images (and some awesome music artists images) here. We've invited him to the show, but we haven't heard from him yet. He would be such a great addition!
We are working hard to gather some of Nashville's best kept secrets to share their talent, so if you know of someone who would be a good fit, please send them our way!
Right in line with 'junk/recycle/reuse', I found this cool image; but I've had it for a while and I didn't save the artist's name. So if you know it, please let me know and I will gladly give them credit.....and I would ask them to be a vendor at Bella Rustica!

Uh, excuse me? I believe Tennesse is quite a bit older than our sister, California. Where do they find all this great stuff?

Bella Rustica will definitely bring the West east but will showcase some of the best merchants this side of the Mississippi!

I really like the idea of having a little "Burlap Cafe" where our guests can relax and maybe sip a

Herb Barn Lemonade. They will be entertained by some extra special musical guests, (after all, you can't have an event in Music City without it!). Hmm, let's see...what's on the menu? Fresh Tap Root burgers and corn bread salad, crispy greens with tart dressing and top it off with a homemade fried pie! (I'll take peach, please) YUM!

Shopping, eating, music....sounds like a recipe for a pretty terrific girl's afternnoon out! What could be better? Any ideas?

Look at this darling show called "The Girls of Seaside Cottage". Those gals in California really know how to put on the best shows.

I love all the color! (Yes, call me a flake, cause my heart flutters at the sight of all whites and creams, too.)

I'd better get started right away to have some in time for September. I love all the kitchy handmades; it's like bohemian princess meets 90210! But my HOA would slap me with a big 'ole fine if this were in my yard.

City Savvy with farmgirl charm...

There are so many goodies I want to share. The last couple of days have been such a testimony to why we began this journey. On Friday, I visited the farm to walk off the property and design my event. One of the first things that caught my eye was this sign:

"As if it was meant to be..."

Bet the one who lettered this little primitive sign never dreamed we would actually SHOP the barn!
I had to chuckle...
It was a gorgeous day, and just being there set my heart to flutter. Opening gates and walking into horse territory was a little unnerving, but my fears were soon put to rest when "Hank", a painted horse & sweetheart at 22 hands tall followed me, nudging me with his soft muzzle and getting way into my personal space, if you know what I mean. One of my vendors, Michelle, from http://www.vintagejunky.blogspot.com/, brought her adorable family to check out the venue. This will be her first official barn sale, but I am very confident she will be quite an asset. I came to know Michelle through Three French Hens in Nolensville. If you want a sampling of her flair and good taste, visit her stylish blog. She has quite a knack for merging old and new into a look that is uniquely her own. She'll keep you up on all the great stuff on Etsy, too. (She also sells on Etsy). One of the fun things she does is, after saving a discarded piece of furniture and giving it new life with one of her specialty paint finishes, she gives it a name. Yes! Her creations get a name! How cool is that? So they take on a whole personality. I've known her to name her pieces after friends...what a tribute!

Love the Tiara!

Dreamy whites and peely paint. Ooooooh, I want to shop! Her flair for arrangement is quite obvious. And I love all the rust!

Anyway, here's my beautiful blank canvas! Check out the glimpse of our beautiful rolling hills in middle Tennessee. The views around the farm are breathtaking! I imagine sipping an herb barn lemonade while sitting on bails of hay covered in quilts; a little bluegrass playing from the bed of an old rusted pick-up and all the great smells of fall, including kettle corn and hay and fresh-mowed grass. I think we can expect fresh grilled Tap Root burgers; anyone know where we can find handmade tamales? Yum.

Starting again from scratch...

Seems like there is a learning curve to everything.

Sometimes it just comes at you like a fast curve ball; you swing with all your might, but then you hear the smack of the ball in the catcher's mitt behind you and it becomes very evident your teammates are getting uneasy.

It's OK. There still more balls out there. Game's not over yet.

Tap the bat on the dusty plate, refocus ...wham! Right away there's another pitch. You have to swing but you're still no sure, so you close your eyes tight and hit that pitch with all your might.

Baseball is a pretty good metaphor for just about anything, isn't it? Striking out pretty much describes what happened a couple of weeks ago when reality hit that our current location for the barn sale would not support the traffic flow, nor could our efforts to conform to Williamson Co. Codes.

It left us gasping for air. We'd been searching for the right location for months, but had simply been pounding a square peg into a round hole.

Day two- another lead. A willing farm owner who is partial to the cause. The setting: a 150 year old beef cattle farm with a 60 year old horse barn. Wide open spaces, rolling hills, a welcoming Victorian farm house and Angus, the cow dog. Not the beautiful event barn we had been drooling over, but it came with a precious family willing to contribute their own resources to help make our event a success.

The fundraiser suddenly went from a fru-fru ladies' event to a rip-roarin' family day complete with horseback rides, homemade ice cream, grilled Tap Root burgers and hay rides; a setting aptly fit for an AGAPE event. Adjustments can be challenging, but it's good to be reminded we are all in this together. Hopefully, our already committed vendors will embrace the challenge, too. We couldn't do it without you!

Putting a fresh, contemporary spin on country and funky-junk style with her Dash & Albert Rugs is Tawnya at C'est Moi. Tawnya is an amazing entrepreneur and has unselfishly helped and encourage so many of the locals build their businesses. Her indisputable talent embraces newcomers and is refreshingly authentic.

Two other great ladies in my 'booster club' are Stacey and Debbie from Nolensville. Whenever I need a good dose of creative 'juice', I go visit Three French Hens and The Roost. Their enthusiasm and contribution to putting together this show has definitely been the 'git along' in this 'little doggie'! As I mentioned in an earlier post with the 'yummy pink sofa', they always make themselves available and are just good friends, but a true inspiration.

Barn House Fall Harvest Sale

I would have to say that 90% of my inspiration comes from blogs. My favorites list is totally off the chart, yet daily, I add to it. One of my absolute faves is www.barnhousebh.com where I first caught a glimpse of this phenomenon called a "barn sale". Since then, I have discovered Serena and "The Farm Chicks" at www.thefarmchicks.com and "Junk Salvation" with the 'Funky Junk Sisters'.

It wasn't long until I started noticing all the beautiful barns around Nashville. Then came the "what if" game. Inspiration ignited a passion. A passion I hope to be used for the good of many.

Spending the afternoon gathering inspiration and ending up with an impromptu photo shoot! Stacey found this "yummy" sofa and it just happened to match the vintage prom dress. Hoping for a 'real photographer' to do a shoot at the barn later this week. Thanks Stacey and Debbie! You're the BEST!

This is proof that it was worth the wait. We started looking last March. The search was so exciting; who knew Nashville had so many beautiful barns! Barn weddings are all the rage here, but no owner was willing to accept a possible 1000 visitors. OKay, I've always said around 1000, but Mr. Burton, our Executive Director, described an event held back in the '80's that supported over 9000 visitors in one weekend! The event was 'Old Dogs and Children' and was hosted at Tom T. Hall's home. Who knows? It's just a matter of getting the word out, and technology will take care of that, right?

Anyway, the owner of the barn is super nice and is very supportive. He's made several suggestions for the event and has been very generous with our requests. Just look at the place! If I had custom designed it just for the event, it couldn't be more perfect!

Hopefully, in the next week, I will post on a photo shoot for our website design and give you a peek at some of our cool vendors. Stay tuned!

Launching a premier marketplace event for Nashville

This idea isn't our own and we certainly want to give credit where credit is due. We've found inspiration for a new fundraiser event but want to put a Nashville signature on it. Barn Sales are rising up across the country as one of the trendiest passions for junk enthusiasts. What's a junk enthusiast? They are antique lovers embracing the 'green age' by rescuing, refurbishing and repurposing other folks 'trash'. Putting a new twist on the 'Decorator's Show House' talented antique dealers and shop owners create dazzling displays of antiques and funky-junk against the rustic setting of an equestrian barn. We will take it up a notch by showing how to successfully blend the old with the new.

Imagine a lovely September day at a beautiful horse barn with a Brentwood address; add some of the most talented vintage collectors and shopkeepers hosting an open air marketplace. It's like the pages of Country Living magazine coming to life! Throw in some beautiful handmades, art, fashion and kitchy good eats and you've got a recipe for a lovely girl's day out!
